Story Time!

Hi guys! I’m back and this time I’m here with some of my favorite books I’ve read. I’ll try to give a good summary of them and hopefully this will help you find something to read. I tried to make sure that these books are appealing to boys and girls. Enough talking, let’s jump right in!

1. Left Behind the Kids

Written by Jerry b Jenkins. This forty book series is about four teenagers that get left behind during the rapture. (Hence the name😂.) They have to survive the great tribulation for seven  years until they meet their Lord at the Glorious Appearing. These books were a wonderful encouragement and reminder to share the gospel no matter what. These books would appeal to ages 12-16.

2. Childhood of Famous Americans

Written by Multiple Authors. These books were so helpful to me when I had history reports to do or when I just didn’t know what to read. They are short biographies of some of the famous people of history like Neil Armstrong, Abigail Adams, George Washington, Elizabeth Blackwell, Abraham Lincoln, Louisa May Alcott and many more. This series is appealing to ages 8-12.

3. Bonnets and Bugles

Written by Gilbert Morris. This ten book series is based on a family that was trying to survive the Civil War. It is a good family read aloud or something to read to yourself as you learn about topics like family, Christianity, fathers against sons and sons against fathers, war and love. This appeals to ages 10-14.

4. The Kingdom Series

Written by Chuck Black. A real page Turner if you ask me. (Or my brother😂.) The books take you from the time of Adam and Eve to the end of Revelation but in Knights and dragons form with duals, fencing, saving helpless maidens, and full on war. 🤺🏰🐉 It’s a great way to describe the unseen spiritual battle going on all around us that we can counter attack with prayer and reading our bibles every day. This book series appeals most to ages 10-14 although it is interesting to many adults including my dad.

5. Micah’s Super Vlog

Written by Andy McGuire. This 4 book series is so much fun to read. It talks about important Christian lessons with Micah and the crazy things that happen to him and his friends like them making a movie with no name or ignoring a rich, arrogant bully. Great for personal reading or a family read aloud. Appeals to ages 8-12

6. Pride and Prejudice

Written by Jane Austin this classic is one of my favorites it is about a middle class young woman who’s mother is trying to marry off into a rich family but she doesn’t want to be married to someone she doesn’t love. Then after many strange happenings she falls in love with a rich business man and they live a wonderful life together til the day they die. Sweet, heart warming, a little unpredictable. This is a good book for ages 12-16.

7. A Father’s Promise

Written by Donna Lynn Hess. An amazing fictional story about a father and son who must part ways during WW1 in order to hopefully meet again after the war is over. The son must learn how to become a man without his father and how to live in a Forrest for years with other Jews that are trying to remain unknown by the German army. This book shows the hardship the jews went through during that time to hopefully being a new life after the war was over. Appeals to ages 11-13.

8. Tale of Three Kings

Written by Gene Edwards. Thought prevoking and insightful. A story of Saul, David, and Absalom and how David does not want to be Saul to Absalom but Absalom is nothing like David in the situation. A way of brokeness and submission to God’s will and what to do with a Saul or Absalom in your life. Appeals to ages 14 and up.

9. Princess in Camo

Written by Missy and Mia Robertson. A fun series of five cousins and all of their crazy adventures like going to California alone, adopting a new cousin, and dealing with serious allergy problems. You will see how God and their family helped them get through it all. Appealing to ages 10-13.

10. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings

Written by J. R. R. Tolkien. Though this may be negotiable on whether this is a Christian series or not I do like to pull from for some spiritual warfare aspects like fighting the forces of evil with prayer and God’s word or resisting the temptations of sin (the ring). This is an epic series including adventure, fighting evil, and conquering satan as Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf, Sam, Legolas, Aragorn, Throrin, and the rest of the companies help take back what evil (satan) has stolen. Appeals to ages 13 and up.

Well I hope this was helpful for your reading endeavors and I can’t wait to hear what you thought in the comments! Until next time keeping DIGging!
